In this article, you will discover the exact meaning of a relationship email in email marketing.
Moreover, I reveal the 5 golden types of emails that allow you to build a long-lasting bond with your email list.
Let's Get Started...
It’s a type of email that allows you to build a strong bond with your email subscribers by sending them valuable content such as
Educational Tips
How-to Guides
Telling A Relevant Story
Sharing the News
Offering Freebies
Relationship emails are sent to build credibility and trust.
In contrast, a promotional email doesn’t help you build long-lasting connections with your email subscribers.
Sending promotional emails frequently can appear salesy to your contacts, leading them to unsubscribe from your list.
A few years ago…
When I first started email marketing…
I sent promotional emails every day.
I thought it would help me make money faster.
But it didn’t.
My mentor, Anik Singal, told me to set up 10 email follow-up series in my autoresponder.
7 value-based emails and 3 promo emails.
He added that value-based emails help you build relationships and trust, while promotional emails help you make sales.
Anik's idea was more unique than others.
He advised me to send the promotional emails after value-based emails.
But I did the opposite.
I was sending the promotional emails first for the sake of making sales faster and then sending the value-based emails.
This big mistake caused me to lose the contacts.
I was seeing people unsubscribing from my list unstoppably.
I decided to apply Anik Singal’s exact 10-day email follow-up series.
I set up 7 valuable emails first, a combination of stories and how-to guides and educational content
Then I allocated 3 promo emails at the end.
Did you know what happened to my email marketing business?
My open rates and clickthrough rates jumped to 35%.
Subscribers started to open my emails, read them, and act upon them.
Some of them even read my emails multiple times.
This helped me to build a strong relationship with them by providing valuable content and solving their problems.
Here are 5 types of emails that help you build strong relationships with your email contacts.
Share your personal story in a way that helps subscribers identify with their own experiences.
Recent studies show that 75% of customers want brands to use stories in their marketing campaigns.
Begin by writing down a specific event or moment that started your journey.
Make the story emotional and engaging by sharing the pain points and struggles you overcame, inspiring others facing similar challenges.
Clearly explain how the problem affected your quality of life and how discovering the solution (product/service) created positive change and opened new opportunities for you.
For example,
I was 100 pounds overweight with a lot of belly fat.
The toxic fats were clogging my arteries and veins.
When I was taking a small amount of fat at dinner or lunch, my blood pressure jumped to 180/100.
I was really anxious, to the point that even my heart rate increased to over 120 per minute.
Ultimately, I discovered a product called Belly Fix that has changed my life forever.
I lost 30 pounds in 4 weeks.
And completely reduced my belly fat.
My arteries got rid of stubborn fats, and I started feeling fresh again.
Now, Belly Fix is at your fingertips. Check here.
Thank you,
Smith, John
Share a compelling customer success story that motivates subscribers to take action.
Explain in detail how his/her life was before using the product and how your solution improved theirs forever.
Highlight specifically why competing products failed and how yours delivered superior results.
Customer stories and testimonials are typically available on the sales page of most affiliate products, allowing you to access them and start writing a story about them.
Ready to build good relationships by helping your email subscribers?
Send how-to guide emails.
What is a how-to guide email?
It’s a type of email that assists your email contacts to solve a specific problem.
Sending this kind of email is a win-win.
You provide value to build relationships, and they get a solution to end their struggles.
Do market research in your niche and find the key pain points that your subscribers are suffering.
The best way to do that is to opt in to your competitors' email LIST by using a Google search to see what type of how-to guide emails they send to their subscribers.
Start writing your email copy.
Guide your subscribers step-by-step to solve the problem.
Connect one step to another, and don’t go more than 3-5 steps.
Keep your how-to guide email between 200 and 400 words, because more than that will look tiresome for the reader.
After writing the email body, create a solution-focused subject line.
Use specific numbers, stats, or data.
For example,
if the problem is belly fat.
“3 easy tips to get rid of your belly fat” will be a proper subject line.
Here are another two examples.
“1000+ people lost their belly fat by doing this.”
“Discover the World’s #1 Belly Fat Solution.”
Do you want to win your subscribers' hearts? Give them a valuable freebie.
This helps you to build a strong bond with them.
There are many kinds of freebies, such as
A free consultation
A free course
An ebook
A free tool or resource
A free guide or report
For example, if you're an affiliate marketer, you can give them access to a free course to teach them affiliate marketing.
Offering a free ebook is another valuable freebie because it shows your expertise, knowledge, and ideas.

I use Google News a few times per week to find the latest news related to my niche to share it with my subscribers.
Go to Google and type your topic in the search bar. For example, the keto diet.
Click on the News button.
Select the latest news, read it carefully, and then share it with your email subscribers.
Do you want to build trust with your email subscribers by teaching them? Send educational content.
Educational content allows them to learn something or improve their knowledge and skill.
By sharing tips, tutorials, and valuable insights, you position yourself as an expert in your niche.
This authority makes subscribers more likely to buy from you when you eventually promote something.
Recent research shows that educational content increases the likelihood of consumers making a purchase by 131%.
You can use your expertise and knowledge to provide educational content for your email subscribers.
Share what you know in your niche. Choose an interesting topic that can excite them the most.

And some of them even reply to my email and express their gratitude because of my educational email marketing tips.
YouTube is the second-largest search engine, and many people use it to watch videos that address specific problems.
So, it’s a good source of information to share with your email contacts to improve their knowledge and keep them updated.
Enter your topic in the YouTube search bar, find an interesting video, watch and highlight the main points, then share with your subscribers.
I have been using this method for a long time now.
It helps me to get research and expert-backed information for my email marketing business.
It's not essential to write a long email.
Just write a few sentences about it, then provide the link for them to watch the video.
